Key Person System

At Toy Box Day Nursery we recognise that parents/ carers are generally the first educators of their child/ children and this is reflected in the relationships with the staff at the Nursery. Parents/ carers are welcomed to discuss the development of their child/ children with the Key Person, Nursery Manager or any member of staff at any time. 

Children thrive from a base of loving and secure relationships. To this end Toy Box Day Nursery operates a "Key Person" system. During your child's first month here at Toy Box they are given the opportunity to choose their own Key Person within their age group. 

Whilst a bond with the Key Person is important for your child's initial settling in process, all staff members within your child's room share an equal role in your child's daily care and development. All staff have a duty to know each child's individual needs thus enabling them to deliver a holistic and cohesive care package for both you and your child.

Through observations, photos and creative evidence the Key Person compiles a "Learning Journey" for each child within their group. We feel this system offers a sense of stability, continuity and security - all vital to a young child's development. 

Parents/ carers are free to access and make contributions to their child's Learning Journey at any time. Alternatively if a parent/ carer feels they need more time to look through or discuss in more detail, any aspect of their child's Learning Journey, they can make a mutually convenient appointment with the child's Key Person, Room Leader or the Manager.

Parent/ Carer Consultation Days are held twice yearly. This ensures that parents/ carers have the opportunity to have a meeting with their child's Key Person on a one-to-one basis.

Before your child starts at Nursery we encourage a series of introductory visits. These visits help increase confidence and allows the child time to familiarise him/ herself with the nursery and staff before they begin.

These settling in sessions are included within the registration fee.
